Position Summary

The Staff Software Development Engineer is a Mainframe and Java Lead Developer position in the Plan Sponsor domain. The Lead developer is responsible to design, develop, build, test, and maintain Mainframe, Cobol, Batch, MQ, DB2, Java, web-based, user interface applications. Experience with resolving complex technical issues and providing timely support to production systems for business continuity, is a must.

  • Experience in leading onshore and offshore software development teams.

  • Ideal candidate has experience with Cloud migrations (Red hat, Azure OpenShift Container) and DevSecOps (Github, Jenkins, Urban code deploy, Sona type) adoption.

  • Experience addressing code vulnerabilities in technical stack of Github, Octopus, and Endeavor.

  • Experience as a Security Maven honoring control standards while handling Archer exceptions as required.

  • Person will be actively involved in the EDF (Enterprise Delivery Framework) Agile project lifecycle producing rapid prototypes early in the design phase, solutioning, coding, testing etc.

  • Participate as member of a Scrum team in technical lead and software development role.

  • Qualified candidate must have the ability to take responsibility as an application owner and work closely with the dept. Lead Director of Software Development Engineering.

  • Will bridge the gap between the visual elements and the server-side development and working with infrastructure, taking an active role on both sides, and defining how the application looks and functions.

  • Participate in architecture review sessions and provide inputs to architecture team through framework analysis, design pattern, prototype specifications.

  • Perform high and low-level design, provide pseudo codes, and conduct design reviews.

  • Mainframe technology experience a must, plus Java both front-end and back-end development along with maintaining the application database schema.

  • Participate in iteration demos, daily scrum, team, business meetings, planning sessions and participate in KT sessions, help prepare system appreciation documents and support the Transition process.

  • Perform root-cause analysis of any issues that arise post-implementation and work on solutions related to resolving the issue. Conduct impact analysis of issues logged, prioritize, and ensure that production support provided as per the committed SLA.

  • Candidate will play a pivotal role in adopting DevSecOps principles with a development approach with emphasis on Behavior Driven Development and Code coverage. In addition, lead automation initiatives to deliver technology capabilities that grow Aetna core business market to improve profitability.

  • Oversee technical debt remediation and system enhancements. Support a vibrant Data Digital Analytics Technology organization leveraging talent as create startups within our Aetna CVS health company culture in support of enterprise goals.

  • Expectation to form strategic partnerships with key internal partners and subject matter authorities to achieve business results. Mentorship and leadership of other software development engineers. Create seamless engagement and personalized experience across company channels.

  • Expertise in both strong analytical and technical skills with soft skill facilitation capability.

  • This role requires the individual to be able to work in a stressful environment and manage multiple work sets and deliverables in an extremely high-volume area, in a timely manner, with exceptional quality to meet the business, domain, enterprise, and organization goals.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software development working on enterprise-class applications for Mainframe.

  • 8+ years of experience in Java technologies, with lead experience including the following:

  • 5+ years in domain level Agile and/or SAFe methodologies.

  • 4+ years of experience with concept of service API, caching, web component, content management, web security, SSR/CSR, cloud platform, queue, micro services and service mesh, SQL and non-SQL storage, identity management, CICD.

  • 4+ years of experience with Cloud developing and Web Application framework with NodeJS, Spring Boot, Java, with Cloud native technologies (Azure, GCP) - Some BDD experience (Jest, Jasmine, Karma or Chai)

  • Applicant to have experience working on the following Aetna applications: APM (IDMS), BLAZE suite of applications, BPR, BPLVTRANs, CIBenefitMaintenance, EBSRATE, FOVs, PAI, PBGI, PBI, PCIA suite of applications including Cloud services, PCIABAT, PCIS suite of applications including Cloud services, PERS, PSBOR, PSR, PLANROLLUPBENFITS, PLNLMTFIN, PSA, PSACOMMON, PSAHATS, PSILBFSVC, PSOIZONEA, PSOIZONEC, and TABLEAU.

  • Experience with Automation capabilities.

  • Experience with Auto-Case Small group case installation.

  • Experience with Manual Case Installation.

  • Understanding of plan setup and case structure for benefit offerings.

Technology Skill Set

  • Programming Languages: Java, COBOL, SQL, Shell scripting

  • Mainframe Technologies: CICS, JCL, VSAM, REXX

  • Databases: DB2, MySQL

  • Cloud Platform: Azure

  • Tools: Open-Source Eclipse, IBM Rational Application Developer, IBM Data Studio, GITHUB Desktop, WINSCP, SOAP UI, Postman, Tableau, RTC, JIRA

  • Operating System: Windows 10, RHEL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AGILE methodology. End to End Domain level Agile model.

  • SAFE practices or able to work in SAFE practices with Agile methodologies.

  • Experience with responsive, adaptive UI design and development.

  • Experience related to security-oriented projects and solutioning.

  • Experience with UI sharing: Web Components, Micro-frontends, Control/Pattern libraries and tools.

  • Experience with Mainframe Cobol technology

  • Business Objects, Tableau reporting,

  • Experience in Jenkins, CI/CD Pipeline, GIT, and other DevOps principles.

  • Ability to multi-task and rapid context switch between dynamic project priorities.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$124,372.50 - $247,200.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
