Chevron is accepting online applications for the Geoscience Technologist position through June 6, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (CST).

The position is to support Global Exploration (GE) teams in seismic, well, and GIS data management. The teams are made up of senior earth scientists and petroleum engineers who work on projects across the globe to raise exploration resource opportunities for Chevron. The position reports to the GE Subsurface Information Manager.

The candidate will use advanced digital workflows and software skills to support geoscience scope of work. Will create maps and other analysis for internal use, regulatory submissions and will conduct data quality control. The candidate must have a high degree of familiarity with a variety of subsurface data (seismic, well data, G&G interpretation), data loading, naming conventions, data formats, data manipulation and analysis. The position also has a leadership component, requiring building effective, collaborative relationships with the subsurface teams and Chevron digital platforms stakeholders.

The position requires experience in G&G interpretation in Petrel, Petrel Studio, and ArcGIS Pro for GIS data management. There is a significant component involved in migration of projects across platforms. Seismic and well data loading experience are critical and ability to quickly learn software and apply them creatively is key. Coding abilities (python, PowerShell, VBA, etc.) are important for data transfer, QC and formatting. The role is responsible for software license and GE security groups management to grant access to virtual machines in the SLB DELFI environment. Experience in the Microsoft ecosystem is highly desired (Office 365, SharePoint, Power Suite and Azure). Basic knowledge of Agile project management and Azure DevOps (ADO) will be considered.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Seismic, well and well log data migration.

  • ArcGIS Pro – GIS data management and publishing.

  • Data search and discovery.

  • Unstructured data management in network drives, SharePoint and Azure.

  • Manage security groups owners and members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in earth science (geology or geophysics) or geographical information systems (GIS).

  • Demonstrable experience in Subsurface Data Management (seismic, well logs, interpretation).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft certifications: Safe, Agile, Azure DevOps, Office 365.

  • Quantified Experience: SharePoint (power user level), PowerShell, Python, data analytics.
