Position Overview
The Media Relations Manager is involved in all aspects of the development and implementation of Shaw Residential’s media - based communication strategies.
This role is responsible for promoting and protecting the reputation of our reside n tial business , brands and products through the execution of media strategies and strategic messaging efforts . Maintaining close connectivity with internal communications leaders and the corporate communications team will ensure alignment and awareness for broader enterprise initiatives and objectives . A s a n individual contributor, this role i s embedded in marketing services to share insights and elevate storytelling opportunities across marketing se rvices and the full residential division.
The media relations manager will be less involved with the direct assembly of media responses (leveraging writers, project managers and other resources for this ) , and w ill f o cus on becoming the connection point between Shaw Residential and our trade media partners . Armed with knowledge and relationships, this role is key to Shaw’s favorable position in the industry. This individual will also be essential for positioning and establishing a rapport with our trade partners and driving awareness around Shaw residential’s differentiated brand portfolio.
Key objectives:
Develop new relationships and s trengthen existing with media partners.
Develop messaging and writing skills and work to broaden industry perspective
Develop internal relationships with business and brand stakeholders
Serve as liaison with c ontent peers and brand partners on emerging industry insights
Responsibilities:
Implement and measur e external and internal m edia - based communication plans
Manage day-to-day media relations/media requests for brand and residential needs
Collaborate with marketing and subject matter experts for appropriate media responses
Develop press kits , Q&A, and approved messaging for brand and residential teams as required
Work closely with key stakeholders to develop approved positioning and messaging
Identify opportunities to proactively pitch brand and residential stories to key media partners
Support brand teams in various initiatives that require media relations expertise
Ensure coordination of messaging before communication to internal and external audiences
Evaluate effectiveness of media spend and communicate results to business
Provide support to Corporate Communications team for crisis management and other issues as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field
3+ years of experience in a Media Relations, Public Relations, or Editorial role
Excellent verbal , written and interpersonal communication skills with strong editorial abilities
Highly organized with the ability to multi- task
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, media monitoring software etc.
Strong project management skills
Manage tight deadlines and execute complex projects in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Team player who is willing to jump in on other projects or collaborative opportunities
